Update []: Wayfinder has now arrived on PS5 in its new and hopefully much improved 1.0 form. As originally reported, the game's been given quite a dramatic overhaul, moving it away from its always-online MMO roots and transforming it into a full-on action RPG that can be played cooperatively.
Microtransactions have been completely removed as well, with the title now costing a flat £19.99 / $24.99 on the PS Store. Oh, and crossplay has been implemented across all platforms — which is always nice.
We've embedded Wayfinder's launch trailer below.
Original Story: Do you remember Wayfinder, the action MMORPG that dropped on PS5 and PS4 some time ago? The project always looked really promising, but it didn't quite set the world on fire when it launched, and it's struggled to make waves since, within such a competitive market.
But developer Airship Syndicate has stuck with its creation, and it's announced that the game's early access period will come to a close next week, on the 21st October. Basically, Wayfinder has been completely reworked for its full 1.0 release.
It's no longer an MMO, microtransactions have been ditched, and it's now going all-in on being an action RPG with co-op functionality.
And yes, you can play through the campaign solo — complete with customisable difficulty settings.
"Originally designed as an online only experience, Wayfinder has undergone a complete transformation into a fully-fledged, co-op ARPG. Through numerous updates, Airship Syndicate has updated the game with new zones, characters, quests, enemies, story moments, loot and more, all fueled by player feedback from Early Access," reads the press release.
For what it's worth, Wayfinder started out with mixed user reviews across Steam and other platforms, but more recent appraisals have been much more positive thanks to the aforementioned updates. Hopefully this is the game's big turning point. It'll be priced at £19.99 / $24.99.
Will you be giving Wayfinder a shot? Maybe you've already tried the game in early access? Pick a hero and then get looting in the comments section below.

Skipped it for those exact reasons. This sounds like a great upgrade, and a nice price aswell. Will definitely keep an eye on player feedback and possible jump on it when I'm through with Metaphor.
Getting a very big torchlight/kingdoms of avalor vibe from this..I need to see more actual gameplay footage but for £20 it's grabbed my interest as I just can't resist a good arpg game.
I've a long for the ride since Digital Extremes fumble of the launch. It's a good time especially after Airship were finally able free it completely from DE grasps and relaunched the game as an offline (or online) ARPG. It's a good game with very friendly and transparent devs, they kept the community updated consistently, good and the bad on Discord.
Can't wait for the QOL updates, new content at launch, and the future updates.
It is a decent game with devs actually listening to players' feedback and implementing numerous changes in order to get the game into right shape. Even though they've started with mixed reviews in Steam (which turned many people away from buying Wayfinder back then) now everything is much-much better. And 1.0 version should be at least pretty good (if not awesome).
Got the "early access" version last month, its a fun game though you can feel the MMO origins. At its a price though i would say its worth a shot.
Looks fun, but too many games.
No microtransactions, no buy
This art style looks like what people are projecting onto the new Dragon Age
@Logonogo getting more of Darksiders style from it to be honest. Even more so since I'm replaying them atm
Played and enjoyed Airship games Battle Chasers: Nightwar, Darksiders: Genesis, and Ruined King, so will probably give Wayfinder a go if it reviews well and the gameplay is appealing.
I always loved the art style of this game, but didn't want to commit to an MMO. I'm happy to see it converted to single player (and co-op friendly) ARPG experience.
I've got a lot on my plate at the moment, but this is officially on my radar.
This game went from not interesting me at all to becoming highly interesting. I hope they stick the landing.
I'll need to see some actual live gameplay because my main issue during the MMO versions beta was how amateurish the presentation was for the narrative. The gameplay was okay erring on the fun side.
I hope they add more trophies already got the platinum. Will still check out the new content either way.
How's the story? Is it any good? For that price point I'll check it out after I beat a few games on my backlog
So is it singleplayer, or only coop multiplayer?
Hmmm... I guess at some point I will check this out, because I eventually try everything Airship Syndicate puts out, to varying degrees of enjoyment (I just love the way they look). The problem is that I really can't quite get the gameplay loop now that it's offline. I was under the impression it was kind of Monster Hunter-ish maybe in its original incarnation. So is it just a bossrush or are there actual levels, what's happening here?
Edit: So I watched the trailer a couple of more times, and saw the Randomized Dungeon tag, so I guess more third-person Diablo?
It actually looks promising. I never paid attention to this game before, but it looks like something I could play with friends/siblings. I hope Sony will offer it through PS+ Essential/Extra in 2025.
@djlard both
@ShogunRok Any chance of a Push Square review in the near future?
@MindfulGamer We're absolutely swamped right now but I'm going to try and spend some time with Wayfinder when I can and see what it's all about. If I can squeeze a review in, I will.
If I buy it, this is just an update not a new downloadable title right?
Been really enjoying this, hopefully more content to come with 1.0 now out.
OK, I'm confused - all the blurb seems to mention PS5 and Steam but the PS4 version seems to be skated over yet the game is out on it. Is the PS4 getting 1.0 too?
EDIT: Doesn't look like it - so why is it still on the PS4 store?
" PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 users, meanwhile, will have access to the current version until the Echoes update is released. At that time, according to Airship Syndicate, only the PlayStation 5 version will be supported."
Looks like I need to dust off those DS5s.
